Participated with the Reporters Committee and 63 other media organizations and outlets in a letter to Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva urging the Sheriff’s Department to take immediate steps to prevent another incident like the arrest of Josie Huang, a reporter for KPCC, an NPR member station owned and operated by Southern California Public Radio.  Ms. Huang was violently arrested by deputies and charged with obstruction in the lawful course of her reporting, even after identifying herself as a journalist.  The letter urges that the citation against Ms. Huang be dismissed.  The letter states that multiple recordings of the incident make it appear that the department’s arrest of Ms. Huang violated her clearly established First Amendment rights as a journalist to cover a civil protest.
