The European Union on April 22 fined Apple and Meta nearly a combined $800 million, and ordered Apple to change aspects of its business model within 60 days over alleged violations of the bloc’s sweeping rules meant to promote digital competition.
The European Commission, the E.U.’s executive body, ordered Apple to remove what the regulators described as restrictions that prevent app developers from steering users to potentially cheaper offers outside Apple’s App Store.
The regulator said it is still evaluating a new personalized-ads model that Meta introduced in late 2024…. Meta’s fine covers the period when E.U. users were offered the “consent or pay” option between March and November 2024….
