The “Free Speech America” Gala returns in person to the elegant surroundings of The Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C., on October 19, 2023. AWARDEES & FEATURED SPEAKER
Freedom of Speech Award Recipient Bob Woodward is an associate editor of The Washington Post, where he has worked for 50 years. He has shared in two Pulitzer Prizes, first in 1973 for coverage of the Watergate scandal with Carl Bernstein, and second in 2002 as the lead reporter for coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He has authored or coauthored 21 books, including All the President’s Men – all national bestsellers.
American Horizon Award Recipient Michael K. Powell is President and CEO of NCTA–The Internet & Television Association, one of the largest trade associations in Washington, D.C., representing the communications and content industries. He is a former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, where he oversaw the rapid transformation of communications markets into the Digital Age.
The evening’s Featured Speaker will be Curtis LeGeyt, President and CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters, which represents America’s television and radio broadcasters. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the NAB Leadership Foundation and the Broadcasters Foundation of America.
Our Master of Ceremonies will be former FCC chairman and Media Institute Board Chairman Dick Wiley. This year’s in-person Gala promises to be an entertaining celebration of exemplary journalism and visionary industry leadership – and a signature event of Free Speech Week, Oct. 16-22.
