Participated in an amicus brief (with other amici) filed with the Supreme Court of the State of Nevada in Toll v. Gilman. The case involves a defamation suit brought by Gilman against Toll, a reporter for an online news site, seeking disclosure of Toll’s news sources. The brief argues that Nevada’s shield law is broad and applies to “any newspaper” including online newspapers. The brief concludes that Toll was thereby protected and not required to reveal his sources as the district court had compelled. The lower court had held that the shield law applied only to printed newspapers. The brief urges the Nevada Supreme Court to issue the writ sought by Toll. [2019]
