Arlington, Va., June 15, 2016 –Chris Moeser of TEGNA Inc. has been elected to the Board of Trustees of The Media Institute. Moeser serves as Associate General Counsel of TEGNA, based in McLean, Va.
Moeser joined TEGNA in July 2015 after working as a First Amendment attorney for 12 years in Phoenix, where he represented local and national media clients on a variety of matters, including defamation, privacy, access to judicial and public records and proceedings, prior restraints, subpoenas of journalists and anonymous Internet authors, and other matters involving the gathering, reporting, and dissemination of news.
Moeser is a 2003 graduate of the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona. In 2001, he served as a legal intern at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. Before attending law school, he worked for seven years as a reporter at the Arizona Republic and the Phoenix Gazette, covering state and national politics, higher education, city government, and law enforcement. He graduated in 1993 from the Honors Program at the University of Kansas with degrees in political science and journalism.
“Chris Moeser is a valuable addition to our board, as he brings a wealth of experience in First Amendment issues and media law related to newsgathering and reporting,” said Patrick Maines, president of The Media Institute.
The Media Institute’s Board of Trustees is comprised of representatives from various sectors of the media industry, as well as communications attorneys.
