House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte To Deliver Keynote Address

Arlington, Va., October 16, 2015 – The Media Institute will honor Peggy Noonan, best-selling author and columnist for The Wall Street Journal, and Meredith Attwell Baker, president and CEO of CTIA–The Wireless Association, at its annual Friends & Benefactors Awards Banquet on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The event will take place at the Washington Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Noonan will receive the Freedom of Speech Award. It will be presented by Bob Woodward, Washington Post associate editor and author of 18 books. Baker will receive the American Horizon Award, recognizing her visionary industry leadership. Presenting her award will be former NTIA head Larry Irving, president and CEO of the Irving Group. The master of ceremonies will be communications attorney and former FCC chairman Richard E. Wiley.
Peggy Noonan’s column, “Declarations,” has run in The Wall Street Journal since 2000. Noonan is the author of nine books on American politics and culture, among them her early political classic, What I Saw at the Revolution, and her best-selling biography of Ronald Reagan, When Character Was King. She was a special assistant and speechwriter to President Ronald Reagan. Her newest book, The Time of Our Lives, will be published in November.
Meredith Attwell Baker joined CTIA–The Wireless Association as its President and CEO in June 2014. Prior to joining CTIA, Baker served as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs at Comcast NBCUniversal. From 2009 to 2011, she was a commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Before joining the FCC, Baker served as Acting Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).
Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, will deliver keynote remarks. He is also Co-Chair of the Congressional Internet Caucus and the International Creativity and Theft-Prevention Caucus, as well as Chairman of the House Republican Technology Working Group. Chairman Goodlatte has served in Congress since 1993.
The banquet will be The Media Institute’s signature event in celebration of Free Speech Week, taking place Oct. 19 to Oct. 25.
