Arlington, Va., February 18 – Among a new array of technologies destined to have a profound impact on the media industry, two stand out in 2022: Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain.  These top trends are profiled in an informative “Primer” released today by The Media Institute’s Digital Media Center titled “Digital Media Trends To Follow in 2022.”

The Primer, authored by Media Institute Distinguished Fellow Stuart N. Brotman, gives an overview of the technology involved in both Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain.  The Primer then outlines how these technologies are starting to find uses in various types of media companies – and how they’re likely to become significant forces across the media industry.

Among the growing uses for AI, for example, will be quicker content creation in broadcast newsrooms, content monetization, automated journalism, and enhanced advertising personalization.

Blockchain technology will be applied to content housing, content acquisition, distribution rights, and transaction processing.  Blockchain also promises to usher in a new generation of decentralized video streaming and consumption, Brotman predicts.

“Media companies of all types and sizes already are beginning to assess how both AI and Blockchain can be integrated in their daily operations,” notes Brotman.  “This Primer hopefully will help them – along with others who are at lower points of the learning curve – focus on the real opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in these dynamic areas.”
