This year’s “Free Speech America” Gala will be virtual once again!  Relax in the comfort of your own home and enjoy an entertaining one-hour program including award presentations starting at 8 p.m. on October 20, 2021.  Sponsors will feast on a gourmet three-course dinner delivered to their home with a bottle of wine and a bouquet of flowers.

American Horizon Award Recipient William E. Kennard is Chairman of the Board of AT&T Inc., a diversified global leader in telecommunications, media and entertainment, and technology.  As Chairman of the FCC from 1997 to 2001, he shaped policies that created an explosion of new wireless phones, brought the Internet to a majority of American homes, and saw billions of dollars invested in broadband technologies.

Freedom of Speech Award Recipient Norah O’Donnell is the anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News.  She also anchors CBS News election specials and is a contributing correspondent for “60 Minutes.”  An Emmy Award-winning journalist, she has spent more than two decades covering major stories around the globe and interviewing some of the world’s most important leaders.

Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient and Featured Speaker Gordon Smith is President and CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters.  He joined NAB in 2009 following two terms as a U.S. senator.  After more than a decade as the voice of U.S. television and radio broadcasters, Senator Smith announced he would retire at the end of 2021, capping a career of unparalleled leadership in both government and industry.

Our Master of Ceremonies will be former FCC chairman and Media Institute Board Chairman Dick Wiley.  This year’s virtual Gala promises to be an entertaining celebration of visionary industry leadership and exemplary journalism  – and a signature event of Free Speech Week, Oct. 18-24.  Plan to join us!
