Arlington, Va., Sept. 29, 2014 – The Media Institute will bestow awards on Senator Chris Dodd, chairman and CEO of theMotion Picture Association of America, and Gannett President and CEO GraciaMartore at its annual Friends & Benefactors Awards Banquet Nov. 18 at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, D.C. 

      Senator Dodd will receive the Freedom of Speech Award, while Martore will receive the American Horizon Award.  The master of ceremonies will be communications attorney and former FCC chairman Richard E. Wiley.

      Chris Dodd represented Connecticut for 36 years in the U.S. Congress before joining MPAA in 2011.  In the Senate, he was a senior member of the Foreign Relations Committee, and was a key participant in nearly every major national policy debate over the last three decades.  Senator Dodd’s highest priority at MPAA is to champion the creative freedoms of filmmakers. 

      Gracia Martore joined Gannett in 1985 as Assistant Treasurer and went on to hold positions including Treasurer, Vice President of Investor Relations, Senior Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer, Executive VP, and Chief Operating Officer.  She has appeared on the “Most Powerful Women” lists of Fortune, Forbes, and Washingtonian magazines.

      FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai will deliver keynote remarks.  He has served on the Federal Communications Commission since he was nominated by President Barack Obama in May 2012.
