Description
Privacy and Safety Page: On July 29, 1999, The Walt Disney Company announced the creation of a permanent online home for privacy information and safety resources on its flagship Disney.com Web site. Literally "one click away" from every page on Disney.com, the Privacy and Safety page provides kids and families with easy access to helpful information on safe surfing, links to content filtering software, links to sites with "good content," as well as reporting mechanisms for illegal or harmful behavior on the Web. The page also features a direct link to GetNetWise, a Web site to help parents learn what they need to know about safeguarding kids in cyberspace. Disney is a partner in the GetNetWise Coalition, an unprecedented online partnership committed to providing common safety resources to help families with their Internet experiences.

Privacy: On June 29, 1999, The Walt Disney Company and Infoseek Corporation, our partner in GO Network, announced that we would not accept nor purchase Internet-based advertising from Web sites that do not post privacy policies regarding the collection and use of personal information gathered online. Effective Oct. 1, 1999, the policy applies to GO Network (www.go.com) and Buena Vista Internet Group Web sites including Disney.com, ESPN.com, Family.com, ABC.com, and ABCNEWS.com.

"Blast Pad": Disney's Club Blast -- Disney.com's member service just for kids -- launched "BlastPad," an instant messaging tool that allows kids to communicate instantly with their online pals while enabling parents to set up levels of control available to each child. Settings range from total control -- where the child is unable to use instant messaging -- to full communication via instant messaging with all of Disney's Club Blast members.

"Doug's Safety Web Page": In June 1999, in conjunction with a special television episode of "Disney's Doug" that explored the issue of Internet safety, Disney Online introduced Doug's Safety Web Page, providing families with an at-home resource for making wise surfing choices.

America Links Up Campaign: In September 1998, Disney Online participated in the America Links Up campaign, which brought together educators and public, private, and nonprofit organizations in a public awareness event designed to help kids, parents, teachers, and others learn how to use the Internet safely and productively.

"Smart Surfing Week": In 1998, Disney Online hosted its first Smart Surfing Week, an education program dedicated to helping families navigate the online world wisely.

CyberNetiquette Comix Series: Launched in 1997, Cyber- Netiquette Comix provided families with an entertaining and interactive way to learn valuable lessons about online safety.
