Description
Filtered ISPs: The key project that our organization has committed to is consumer education regarding the new market of filtered ISPs.

Just two years ago Internet service providers did not see the need to offer Internet content that would be filtered from their end -- all filtering was being done at the PC level. In response to complaints about installation and maintenance of PC filters, several ISPs began to offer service that was filtered before it reached the home.

Many families have found this approach to be a simpler and more effective method for separating good and bad Internet content. In fact, many families waited until this kind of service came along to go online for the first time.

Focus on the Family has specifically supported this market by creating the following resources:

  • A directory of filtered ISPs
    (www.family.org/familyISPs)
  • An article about filtered ISPs called "A Clean Supply" that appeared in our Citizen magazine (www.family.org/ cforum/citizenmag/features/a0001556.html).
Furthermore, Focus on the Family has created a resource called "Protection and Socialization" (www.family.org/cforum/ research/papers/a0002553.html) that stressed the importance of basic parenting principles as a "low-tech" solution to navigating Internet problems.
