Program/Project
Description
|
The mission of the Cyber Patrol unit of The Learning Company is to develop software that helps people, particularly children, explore the Internet safely and productively. The group's major product is Cyber Patrol, the world's most widely used Internet filter. New projects currently under development include an Internet educational product for children that guides them to age-appropriate Internet content and facilitates team collaboration.
At the heart of Cyber Patrol's top-rated Internet filtering software is the CyberNOT list. The CyberNOT list is organized into 12 categories such as violence / profanity, sexual acts, full nudity, intolerance, and drugs / drug culture, which are defined by clear, published criteria. Parents and teachers can review the criteria, turn on or off the various categories, and add or delete specific sites to the list. Schools that use Cyber Patrol on the server can create their own lists of material appropriate for classrooms and schools.
Community Areas: Parents and teachers who seek further information about Internet filtering and Internet safety can visit the Cyber Patrol Web site for safety tips and links to online resources. Among the free resources available at the Web site is an Online Safety presentation that can be used free of charge by anyone wishing to provide an overview of Internet safety. In addition, the company plans to develop a special online area for teachers and educators whose organizations use Cyber Patrol to assist them in integrating Internet access with filtering into their communities.
