Program/Project
Description
|
As kids go online in record numbers, parents, schools, and even the government have raised concerns about how to ensure children have an entertaining, educational, and safe experience.
We have addressed this need by creating a Web site where kids (at home and school) can find worthwhile, fun, and productive activities without having to sort through the millions of pages currently available on the Web. The Web provides a vast resource for people of ALL ages, but "surfing" the Web can be an overwhelming and disappointing experience for kids.
"Bonus.com the SuperSite for Kids" (www.bonus.com) provides a self-contained, protected environment on the World Wide Web where kids can enjoy more than 2,000 fun and enriching activities all in one safe online destination. Kids who visit the SuperSite can explore the moon with 3D glasses, learn how to say good morning in another language, play an online game that hosts hundreds of kids at one time, swim with a shark, color a picture, and much more.

Key Highlights/
Milestones
|
As children enter Bonus.com, NetScooterR, our proprietary technology, automatically generates a second window, modifies the visitor's browser, and presents a simplified and colorful control panel. NetScooter'sÒ child-friendly interface makes it easy for visitors to navigate through Bonus.com while remaining within the SuperSite's protected environment.
Contour® technology enables the Bonus.com editors to present activities created exclusively for Bonus.com. The editors can also select or highlight content licensed from third parties (including NASA, The Museum of Science and Industry, and hundreds of other interesting organizations and schools that publish their work on the World Wide Web) that is appropriate and relevant for kids and integrate these hand-picked "gems" into Bonus.com's safe
online playground. Contour®, together with NetScooter'sR
navigational tools, form the heart of the technology that creates a
virtual fence around Bonus.com. This allows kids to freely access hundreds of pre-screened activities while limiting their access to the Web at large.
Additionally, parents and teachers who choose to download the Bonus.com Desktop Shortcut may allow their children to launch into Bonus.com directly from their desktop. This feature opens a kid-friendly window directly to Bonus.com, circumventing the Internet at large.
